Around last December we had the soft launch of Curiosity-Media which quietly went unnoticed. Since that time we have worked on several web projects, were photographers for 3 weddings, 2 birthday parties, and an engagement session. All this was stemmed from pure determination and drive to prove that we could successfully start and run a business. We experimented with many ideas this year, and that experience will be used for future growth of our company, which still has a long ways to go.
For anyone who is wondering as to how we were able to even launch such a crazy idea, and get any kind of viable business from it, needs to know one thing. “Always follow through”. That is an easy thing to say, but you will be surprised how quickly people get discouraged. There have been many days where we wish we could just relax after a hard days work, just to be faced with endless projects. Long nights of editing photos, or trying to meet the deadline for a website launch. This lead to some serious reconsideration’s, and a lot of sleepless nights for us. But here we are, and although we barely put anything into advertising, we continue to get projects and offer great services for an affordable price.
Another key to starting a business is to do what you are good at, and don’t just start something just because someone else you know did it. What worked for them doesn’t mean it will work for you. As for us, with the 10 years of software engineering experience, and with John working as a web developer, why not start a business creating websites. Plus, believe it or not, we have been interested in photography for over 5 years now. It started with a point and shoot, and our talent had slowly evolved to what it is today. We didn’t just pick up a camera one day, and decided we wanted to start a business in it.
So looking back, curiosity media has conquered the first step. As we are here for the long haul, everyone who has been following us will not see us go away anytime soon. The profits made from this year will be fed back into the business, and hopefully that will make us stronger in the coming years. Maybe there will be room in there to hire some staff, so brush up on your web development and photography skills. We may need some talented individuals to fill some great positions in a new exciting start up company. It will feel great to finally be on the other end of the interviews for a change. So happy one year for Curiosity Media and Happy New Years.
